My music Journey. I have always been asked how my music journey started. My parents both played the piano but my parents had six children and it was my mother that insisted that all six of us should learn to play. She wanted us to learn to play but not become professional musicians as she always and rightly so, considered it an insecure profession. My problem with piano lessons was that what was in the book did not sound like what was on the radio and the radio music is what I wanted to play. Eventually a piano came into the house and my sister (Winsome) taught me to play a walking bass in the left hand while comping chords with the right hand. WOW!!!! All of a sudden I was beginning to sound like the radio musicians. Next I discovered that this three chord pattern could be played at other areas of the piano. On a trip to Kingston a book purchased taught me about key signatures, the different kinds of chords, chord progressions, scale; chord relationship and elementary harmony. But then that is only the beginning….it is this music information that will be shared with you in my Music Theory lessons….More anon
